Colby Cottages - The Captains Cottage
(minimum 2 Nights)
About This Listing
The Captains Cottage is another one Queen Bed cottage surrounding you with a wealth of history amidst modern conveniences, this time with a maritime transport theme.
The floor plan, layout and modern building standard of the Captains Cottage is nearly identical to the Miners Cottage, except instead of warm stained timber walls you have crisp, clean painted timber, all neat and very ship-shape!
Timber boards lining the Captains Cottage were retrieved from a little cottage in Albury that used to serve as a hospital decades ago and was due to be demolished.
Old photographs of ocean scenes, sailing ships, children swimming and playing on beaches and salty old sea captains adorn the walls.
The magnificent queen sized brass bed has a sail and pulleys forming a hanging ceiling above it. Light streams into the room through two separate leadlight windows.
The kitchen galley includes a working old gas stove, wooden sink benchtop, a compact modern fridge, cupboards, table and chairs.
The living area also integrates restored antiques and modern appliances. The modern TV sits on an antique ice box. CD and DVD players also available for your entertainment.
An antique metal locker doubles as wood storage for the open fire, and reverse cycle air conditioning is also installed. The mantle above the open fireplace is crafted from a single slab of local red gum.
The bathroom has a corner double spa bath with an old fashioned rainhead shower over the bath, and a separate toilet with an old fashioned toilet door. An old restored luggage rack in the bathroom originally belonged to the Spirit of Progress, one of the trains that used to run between Melbourne and Albury, then later Sydney, from 1937 up until 1986.
Back and front verandahs run the full width of the cottage, and provide relaxing places to enjoy the views, sunrise and sunsets.
The Captains Cottage can accommodate up to 2 adults.
